Conquering eagles and geese | Bostonography

A friend of mine, Jo, just sent me this awesome link.  The photo is from the blog Bostonography, which is an awesome name.

Conquering eagles and geese | Bostonography

This photo is the first aerial photograph ever taken, which the photographer James Wallace Black accompished using a balloon tied down in the Commons.

The title “Boston, as The Eagle and the Wild Goose See It” is inspired by one of Oliver Wendell Holmes poems.  I’ve always liked anything to do with him because my neighborhood in Mattapoisett has 3 roads named after him (Oliver, Wendell, and Holmes Rd.) because he owned a bunch of land there.

The original site is the BPL’s Flickr set of photos.  I love when libraries learn new things to make information more accessible!
